Where did Duck get it's name?

Each town on the OBX has a rich history behind it's name. The town of Duck, as no surprise was named after the webbed footed waterfowl that have frequented the area for centuries. In the early 19th century, the Northern beaches of the Outer Banks quickly grew in popularity for waterfowl hunting. The marsh lands on the soundside of the island create a perfect haven for waterfowl during their migrations. Visitors much like the waterfowl flocked to the OBX to enjoy it's natural beauty and still do today.
