Great Little Place
The view from the balcony is delightful. It looks over the pool -- which is open 9 am to dusk so you won't be hearing night swimming parties. You can see over the dunes to just about where the water reaches the sand, so the vista is lots of nature with a great surf soundtrack. One caution; the first floor is well above ground, so you'll be climbing 8 flights of stairs for this view. If you've got an energetic kid to help bring up groceries that should help. The place was renovated recently, everything is in great shape. There are skylights in both bathrooms and in the kitchen; this provides lots of light in the daytime. The bedroom and main room both have quality ceiling fans which silently make a refreshing breeze even on low speed. The electronic combination door lock means you can go to the beach and don't have to keep track of where you put the key when you come back. The internet is good, plenty of speed for Netflix or whatever. The provider set it up to pop up a box to accept license terms, and this dialog box seems to show up several times a day on your phone or laptop or however you use the internet, and require several clicks to get back online. I found the place to be pretty quiet; the floors don't creak when you walk around, and I rarely heard neighbors. The balcony has four chairs around a table, plus two tall and solid chairs that are great for watching the ocean. There are lighted walkways to the beach, and it's a pretty close walk to the Duck Deli (try the Duck Buster). There is a Wee Winks convenience store in walkable range that can save the day if you forget to bring hair shampoo or need a bottle of wine or crave some crackers. Beyond that, there's a well-stocked Harris Teeter a few miles south, or you can go a bit farther north to one in Corolla. If you like to go walking at night, about halfway down the road there's very little light pollution, and you can get a great view of the stars. There is also a long boardwalk in Duck (far side of the road), a nice place to wander around with great views of the Sound. One thing I took a day to discover is the kitchen's very handy dimmable under-counter lights. You can set those as dim as you want, giving you the light you need to easily get around the space without the dazzling and night-vision dimming effects of turning on the main lights. All in all, a fine place to have a terrific vacation.
