Kitty Hawk's claim to fame is as the home base for brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright who arrived in this private, oceanside town in 1900 to prepare for their first adventure in modern aviation. Three years later that historical event took place off the nearby dunes of Kill Devil Hills as the brothers launched their famous first flight.

One of the largest of the Outer Banks townships, Kitty Hawk boasts of a modern, thriving beach community oceanside, a charming village showcasing quaint clapboard cottages and picturesque canals leading to the sound's open waters and a maritime forest of some 1800 or so acres. You will find much to choose from to make your vacation an exciting, memorable event.
